Given that this is an aquatic sport, a reasonable level of swimming proficiency is required to ensure children’s safety and maximum enjoyment from the program. The benchmark is as follows: Age 7 – 25 metres, Age 8 – 50 metres, Age 9 – 100 metres, Age 10+ – 200 metres
The swimming trials will be conducted at registration day. The 2nd swimming trial may be conducted during the summer holiday program.

To attain the badge an individual must swim 200m in less than 7 minutes and tread water for one minute as per the specific requirements in the NZ surf handbook. Additionally they will need to do a comparable ocean swim. The Junior Surf Coaches will hold 200m badge trials at the pool before the season begins. Please note that each child MUST resit their badge each year.
